First Bourbon Ever Sold AS NFT

Striped Pig Distillery & Partners Announce

artist contest winner for first ever bourbon sold as NFT

Local Choice Spirits, Striped Pig Distillery, and BarrelFi, who recently announced their move to be the first to put alcohol on the blockchain, as well as their ensuing search for an artist, are ecstatic to announce that Jeremiah Long, Multi-Hyphenate Artist (@_jdl) has won the contest to provide artwork for the team’s inaugural NFT release. Long’s creation will be the featured art on the FIRST EVER Bourbon sold as an NFT.  Rumor has it the NFT art will involve a 3-D rendered version of the Striped Pig mascot – possibly with a few VR/AR tricks up his sleeve.

More details regarding BarrelFi and Striped Pig Distillery partnership are available on BarrelFi’s website.

NFT stands for non-fungible token – a digital token that’s a type of cryptocurrency, much like Bitcoin or Ethereum. But unlike a standard coin in the Bitcoin blockchain, an NFT is unique and can’t be exchanged like-for-like (hence, non-fungible). In this case, the NFT will represent a redeemable voucher for a bottle of the associated bourbon as well as the other benefits mentioned above and discussed on BarrelFi’s various social media platforms.

The BarrelFi Genesis Vintage NFT, available in coming weeks, will be tied to the first Bourbon produced in South Carolina since Prohibition. It is the final barrel ever to be made available of the Striped Pig Distillery’s 7-year aged Bottled in Bond Bourbon. The entire Barrel will be sold and provide first-of-a-kind rights to NFT holders and will be the first legal instance of a direct to blockchain sale of this type.  The Bourbon barrel is expected to yield 111 bottles, thus only 111 NFTs will be available for this maiden release. The Registration for presale just opened to social media followers of BarrelFi. You can access the presale by going to our website or by following BarrelFi On Twitter or discord or by emailing Josh at josh@barrelfi.io.

The Artist jl x Jeremiah Long has worked on numerous projects in the NFT space, and the team is excited that he is joining them for their inaugural release. Long is a multi-hyphenate artist and creative with over 20 years of experience. He blends his background as artist, filmmaker, journalist, live TV producer, musician and designer to create mixed media art with a focus on storytelling.  His creative pursuits, spanning from the visual arts to playing in punk rock bands, intersect with his love of technology, digital media, blockchain and non-fungible tokens. It is with this background and passion that jl is drawing, painting, shooting, and minting new NFT art.

The entire team is ecstatic with the work provided by Long highlighting the Striped Pig Mascot, and a subtle inclusion of the BarrelFi logo, as well as some fun animations. Joshua Wozniak, a founder of BarrelFi stated, “We spent a lot of time and effort to find the appropriate artist for this project. We wanted someone who shared our vision and saw the potential for a long term partnership. We immediately loved working with Jeremiah and his initial draft struck a chord with us instantly. “

As an early adopter of technology, Long expressed his excitement to hear about the forward thinking initiative between Striped Pig Distillery, Local Choice Spirits and BarrelFi to produce the World’s first NFT art tied to a single barrel bourbon. Long contacted the team immediately to submit a concept, noting “I knew they had something very special in store for the NFT community and the fine beverage collector.”

“I am so fortunate to be able to combine my artistic vision with the long term vision of Mark, Paula, Josh, and their team. With this limited 111 NFT release, I see this as the very first step of a movement that is capturing the imagination of the art, technology, and commerce industries.  The future holds many opportunities for artists just like me, and it is my intention to share my art, my story, and my experiences with other artists as they enter this wild and wonderful world of NFTs,” Long added.
